A group of six young activists have filed a lawsuit against 32 countries for inaction against climate change.

The group of individuals, including 3 siblings from Portugal, accused the EU member states for failing to reverse the impact of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The case filed at the European Court of Human Rights will force member states to act, if it becomes successful.

Portugal Wildfires & The Lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed in reference to the wildfires that are becoming more and more frequent in Portugal. Mariana, an eleven-years-old girl, said she still remembers the devastating wildfires of 2017, which haunts her to this day.

The six claimants said they have been facing the brunt of irresponsible policies of 32 countries and they are the direct culprits.

Applicants Seeks No Financial Compensation

All the young applicants said they were not seeking financial compensation. The report mentioned that the 32 countries must comply with the Paris agreement otherwise humanity will cease to exist.

The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) argued that the young teens are facing serious issues, and they must be addressed by the governments.
