Iceland has declared a state of emergency after several earthquakes raised concerns about possible volcanic eruptions.

The government has issued a threat alert and has ordered residents to leave the southern town of Grindavík to avoid civilian harm.

1,485 Earthquakes in 48 Hours

According to official stats, 1485 earthquakes have hit the region in the last 48 hours.

The c said volcanic magma has accumulated 3 miles beneath the ground, due to which earthquakes have become frequent.

“You should monitor local media for updates and follow the authorities,” the threat alert suggested.

U.S. Embassy Issues Volcanic Alert

The statement urged U.S. citizens to follow local media for updates regarding the situation and wear facemasks.

“If an eruption occurs, follow the instructions of Icelandic authorities”. The statement said.
