Cold War Diplomat

Henry Kissinger was renowned for his diplomacy during the Cold War, which left a permanent mark on US foreign policy.

His most significant achievement came when he secretly visited communist China to lay down the groundwork for President Richard M. Nixon’s historic visit in 1971.

Two members of the Nobel committee resigned when Mr. Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for his secret bombing campaign of Cambodia.

A Warmonger Or A Peacemaker?

Kissinger was also subjected to fierce criticism from people who were accused of committing war crimes during the Vietnam War.

Others consider Kissinger a peacemaker after he successfully ended the war in Vietnam and brought about an end to a broader conflict between Arab countries and Israel in 1973.
