The Ukrainian President will be heading towards the US, its staunchest ally against Russia, to rescue $60 billion worth of military aid. The visit comes amid the republican’s refusal to approve billions of dollars’ worth of assistance to Ukraine. This is Mr Volodymyr Zelensky’s third visit to the United States since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Aid is Crucial To Ukraine’s Survival

The Biden administration has repeatedly urged Congress to approve the much-needed aid. While the republican controlled House of Representatives is willing to support aid for Israel, it is reluctant to do so for Ukraine. The week is important for Ukraine as the EU is thinking of opening formal talks for its accession to the bloc.

Zelensky To Arrive on Monday

According to the BBC, the Ukrainian President is expected to arrive in Washington on Monday. The White House said Mr. Zelensky’s visit is meant “to underscore the United States’ unshakeable commitment to supporting the people of Ukraine”. Ukraine’s $60 billion aid package is currently in stalemate as Republicans argued that the money should be spent on border security.
